• • General Appearance
Vampires have a predator-like air about them. Although they look human enough, there is something dead about their eyes. Vampires have pale skin and they are very cold to the touch. They have no heart beat and thus cannot regulate their body temperature. After a feed, their body temperature rises due to the new blood and their cheeks appear flushed. Vampires cannot build muscle, they retain what they had when they were made a vampire but lose most of their body fat. Because of this, most vampires appear thin. They move with unnatural speed and control. Their canine teeth are sharp already a bit noticeable in a smile but can protract and become longer for a feed or a heightened emotion.
• • Growth and Development
Vampires are created and not born. Vampires cannot breed at all. It is unknown who the first vampire was and if he or she still exists.
For a vampire to create another vampire they must first weaken the resolve of their human victim. This can be by nearly killing them (the popular option, usually done by draining most of their blood) or torturing, etc. to break their spirit. The victim must then drink the blood of the vampire wanting to turn them. Over a period of five to seven days the to-be-vampire increasingly becomes light-sensitive. Food no longer satisfies and eventually makes the victim violently ill whenever he or she eats. The extreme thirst usually brings them to violently attack their first human instinctually but this is usually avoided if kept in the care of their maker.
• • Facts
• Vampires are sensitive to UV rays (thus daylight and lights that put of UV lights such as plant grow lamps). Daylight will cause a vampire to blister in a matter of just a couple minutes and they will continue to burn to a crisp if they do not move back into the shadows.
• Vampires do have a reflection in the mirror.
• Crosses and garlic do not work on vampires at all. However, holy water blessed by a devout person of any faith including a witch does cause an acidic burn.
• Wooden stakes to the heart and/or beheading are the only effective ways to kill a vampire. Even then, they sometimes manage to return.
• Vampires do not need to sleep in coffins. They just need to make sure the sunlight isn't going to come through the bedroom windows.
• Although vampires cannot go out into daylight, amulets can be enchanted (by witches only) to render sunlight harmless to vampire skin. Since there is hostility between vampires and witches these amulets are very rare. Amulets can be anything containing a natural stone or crystal like a ring or necklace.
• Vampires have excellent night vision and can see as clearly as humans see in daylight. However, daylight is too bright for vampires and those lucky few with the aforementioned amulets must wear sunglasses to be able to see decently in the day.
• Vampires have heightened senses; hearing, touch, smell, taste are all super intensified. As far as touch goes, vampires have a high pain tolerance but their touch allows them to feel vibrations like a snake. They also have the ability to sense life around them. Because of this vampires are extremely hard to sneak up on, it is as if they have their own built in radar to know exactly where sneaker-upper (hahaha) is at all times.
• Vampires are very fast, very strong, very agile, and usually very beautiful creatures.
